The Royal Tyrrell Museum Cooperating Society, a non-profit, charitable organization, has been supporting scientific, educational, exhibit, and local community initiatives since 1993. Through the management of the Museum Shop, donations, and memberships, the Cooperating Society plays a key role in helping the Royal Tyrrell Museum achieve its mandate. The Cooperating Society contributes significant annual funding to support the Museum’s research, education, and exhibit development programs.

Our Board of Directors is a volunteer-based Governance Board. The role of the Board is to:

  • determine the Royal Tyrrell Museum Cooperating Society’s strategic direction and priorities;
  • develop and ensure stewardship of the organization’s resources;
  • monitor organizational performance;
  • select, evaluate, and support the Cooperating Society’s Executive Director;
  • set policies and processes for effective governance and fund development; and
  • actively promote and support the Cooperating Society and its purpose.

Director Role

Being a member of the Royal Tyrrell Museum Cooperating Society Board is a rewarding and meaningful volunteer experience. Our Directors add value to our mission by:

  • Actively supporting the mission and vision of the Cooperating Society and its efforts and activities;
  • Attending Board and Committee meetings, orientation, planning, and evaluation sessions; and
  • Bringing insights from their experience and expertise to Board planning, deliberation, and decisions.

Meetings are held in Drumheller, with virtual attendance for Directors to participate remotely. Additional commitments include virtual or in-person attendance at community events, Museum events, and orientation and development sessions.
