Preparation Technician – Education Liaison

The Preparation Technician-Education Liaison position is first and foremost a preparation technician, with particular responsibility for assisting in the development, and support, of ongoing educational activities at the Museum.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and collection of vertebrate material
  • Molding and casting for educational use
  • Aiding as a technical consult in the development of Museum education programs, especially citizen science projects
  • Hands on supervision of education staff or program participants
  • Fieldwork duties may include the supervision of participants for the technical aspect of material collection
  • Outreach support; development of activities, and participation in events
  • Co-ordination with the head technician and head of education on the progress of projects, ordering supplies, scheduling, etc.
  • Delivery of tours in the lab

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in palaeontology, biology, or geology. Masters of Science in  palaeontology, or equivalent in research related experience.

Experience in the collection and preparation of vertebrate fossil material.

A strong understanding of the Museum's mandate and a good knowledge of how and why research is conducted.

Strong knowledge of palaeontology especially as it relates to Alberta’s fossil resources

Experience in molding and casting is an asset

Class 5 driver’s license

Required skills:

Task orientated, ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner

Independent worker with strong problem solving skills

Must have demonstrated excellent communication skills, working well in a team environment

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience
