The Communications Assistant will support the management of the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology’s brand and reputation through content development for social media, online profile management, and media and marketing support.

This includes:
• Draft high quality content for Royal Tyrrell Museum communications
• Take the lead on all social media channels and online engagement, including the implementation of a content editorial calendar to develop and manage content and plan specific, timely initiatives
• Manage social media marketing campaigns
• Development of brand awareness and online reputation
• Be responsible for updating content on the Museum’s website and all third-party online profiles
• Create planning documents and goal setting
• Assist in the development of in-house video and image production for promotional use
• Assist with film crews, photographers, and other media as required
• Provide assistance with special events and activities as required

Abilities:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• High quality writing skills that can be adapted for a variety of outlets, including traditional media, marketing materials, profiles, and creative social
• Ability to develop and maintain social media initiatives (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, blog, etc.)
• Initiative to drive and develop content and seek out new opportunities
• Experience working with website content management systems and social media platforms
• Superior organizational skills
• Ability to stay informed about current trends in public relations and museum communications
• Excel in a creative work environment and participate in brainstorming sessions
• Reporting, analytics, and presentation skills

Requirements:
• Minimum of two years post-secondary training in a related discipline
• One to two years’ relevant experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Driver’s license and clean driving abstract
• Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends and to travel

Assets:
• Experience in digital communications or journalism
• Photography and videography skills
• Knowledge of video editing
• Knowledge of travel trade and tourism
