The Collections Assistant will support all aspects of the RTMP Collections Management Program. Duties include assisting with installation and removal of specimens from public galleries, and providing support to preservation activities, including inventory and cataloguing of field collections, ensuring best practices in the storage and movement of palaeontological collections, and maintaining database standards of a large-scale natural history collection. The successful applicant must have experience with the use of digital cameras and photo editing software.

Responsibilities:

  • Collections management support
  • Digital photography and image processing
  • Computer-based inventorying and cataloguing
  • Storage and specimen handling


Requirements:

  • Degree in science, museum studies, or a related field
  • Task orientated and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Assets:

  • Experience working with digital files in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop
  • Experience cataloguing natural history collections
  • Knowledge of Alberta palaeontology
  • Class 5 driver’s license

Compensation:

  • Salary $38,000 – $43,000 per year
  • 15 days paid vacation
